Getaround was looking for a technology partner that could handle the payment flows of its marketplace offering, both in France and internationally, with a minimum of complexity for its teams. Getaround was also looking for a solution that was smooth and user-friendly, and that could be easily adapted to the specificities of each country in which Getaround was planning to launch.
Solution
Getaround implemented Stripe Connect to manage all incoming and outgoing payment flows on the platform. Getaround also uses Stripe Elements to provide the best possible payment experience for its renters. Finally, Getaround relies on the integration of Stripe Sources to multiply the available payment flows (3D Secure, 1-click payment, other payment methods in the future).
Results
Getaround has saved months of development time and accelerated its international rollout. The platform already has more than 40,000 vehicles on it and that number is doubling every year. In addition to France, Getaround has launched in Germany, Spain, Belgium and the United Kingdom. Using Stripe allows Getaround to enter a new market and accept a new currency or payment method with minimal IT development, thanks to Stripe's clear documentation and ease of implementation of Stripe's APIs.
And while there are no technical resources dedicated exclusively to payment management at Getaround, many teams use the Stripe dashboard daily, including support, administrative, financial and international teams.
A mobile interface optimised for drivers and rental companies
While mobile commerce accounts for a third of French e-commerce, nearly half of Getaround's customers already use the mobile app to rent a car. Customers are increasingly looking for short-term rental solutions, booked at the last minute. Getaround relies on Stripe to make the one-click payment process smooth and secure (Stripe provides encryption and storage of Getaround customers' payment data) on mobile and desktop. And thanks to Stripe's Sources API, Getaround offers a native multi-currency online payment solution that adapts to the payment habits of its European users.
And while Getaround offers an optimal experience for its customers, it doesn't forget about car rental companies. On the contrary. In order to convince more and more car owners to rent their cars, Getaround needs to offer them an experience that is tailored to their needs and based on trust.
With Stripe Connect, Getaround can easily and automatically manage the registration of new renters (identity checks, validation of their bank details) and their payment (in the currency of their choice), in all the countries where Getaround is available.
